Ottenstein, PhD, Richard J.

Richard J. Ottenstein, PhD is CEO of The Workplace Trauma Center and the Counseling Centers of Maryland. Dr. Ottenstein and his team have responded to hundreds of bank robberies and other workplace critical incidents. He is a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Team and former chair of the Central Maryland team. He has worked on site at many national disasters including tornado disasters in Alabama, flooding in Florida, Hurricane Georges in Puerto Rico, and the Egypt Air crash. Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks Dr. Ottenstein led a team of specialists to assess needs and provide critical incident support to construction workers at the World Trade Center and at the Pentagon. Dr. Ottenstein is a founding member and former clinical coordinator of the Carroll County, MD CISM team. Working closely with the banking industry he is a frequent speaker at financial institutions concerning bank robbery and trauma response. He is a co-author of The Armed Robbery Training Manual, a training program for security and law enforcement professionals. He is a licensed Psychologist and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional.
