ICISF Participates in Giving Tuesday on November 28, 2017

The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement in 2017

We are hoping to raise $5,000 for the Academy of Crisis Intervention Scholarship Fund

The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.  Occurring this year on November 28, 2017, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

First responders are under increasing pressure due to continually increasing critical incidents in our communities, the state of Maryland, and around the country. They have to deal with critical incidents stress and disasters from either a singular horrific incident or a cumulative effect when they respond to the emergency services of our citizens on a daily, weekly, monthly, and even a yearly basis. This has a devastating effect on the health and well-being of many first responders, in whom we rely on to keep us safe and secure in the communities that we currently live, work, and visit.

The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation is a world renown 501(c) 3 not for profit organization whose mission is to provide leadership, education, training, consultation, and support services in comprehensive crisis intervention and disaster behavioral health services to the emergency response professions, other organizations, and communities worldwide. We are “Helping Save the Heroes” by providing pre-incident education to address the mental health concerns of those who respond to disaster and crises. ICISF aims to promote and maintain standards in the specific field of crisis intervention.

CISM is designed to help individuals deal with the effects of a traumatic event or critical incident.  Perhaps the most recognized element of CISM is known as the Debriefing – a structured on-site group intervention that occurs shortly after the event.  Debriefings, led by ICISF trained persons utilizing a peer to peer technique, provide individuals an opportunity to discuss their feelings and thoughts about a distressing event in a controlled and healthy manner.  Participants learn about stress reactions and symptoms, and acquire additional skills and resources that can help them with the healing process.

Always in the forefront of delivering quality CISM training, ICISF has recognized a need, and has established The Academy of Crisis Intervention Scholarship Fund for full and partial scholarships to assist individuals who are otherwise unable to attend ICISF training due to financial constraints.
