Project Medishare Request for ICISF CISM Trained Personnel

Friday, January 15, 2010

The world is certainly aware of the human tragedy that continues to unfold in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that impacted that country on January 12, 2010 at 1653 Hours.

The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation currently has no plans at this time for a direct Crisis Management response or delivery of services to Haiti.

ICISF is in hourly/daily contact with our partners at the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) and our other partners.

However, ICISF stands ready to assist and support those response agencies of NVOAD and others that are directly involved in pre or post deployment in any way that we can. We will be glad to assist those agencies during their response in consultation via telephonic mediums when and were appropriate. We will continue, with NVOAD assistance as well as other official agencies, to monitor and evaluate the needs within this humanitarian response and play what ever role we can within our mission and resources in the days, weeks and months to come.

As you well know at this moment in the disaster timeline, the urgent/immediate requirements for those impacted are for food, shelter, safety and medical assistance among other basic needs. I'm sure that the operational mode will be in effect for days and weeks to come.

As soon as the responsible agencies can do a needs assessment and identify a systematic plan of action, if CISM-ICISF is included, we will make appropriate notifications.

As with most disasters, the need for CISM support services does not have to be at the actual disaster location. Within the United States there are many areas that have significant Haitian populations that are impacted by this event. There will also be many responders that will ultimately return that may be impacted as well.

Should these assessments indicate a need for CISM services, ICISF shall make reasonable and appropriate notifications to the field. These notifications/requests to the field, if needed, shall be funneled through the ICISF Liaisons, State CISM Networks and/or currently updated CISM Teams within our data base. At this time, we are not looking to develop a list of individuals who desire to assist.

If any existing agencies are providing CISM Services, we would like to be able to document that information for the purpose of maintaining a log of services provided.

Self deployment without appropriate authorization, credentialing, purpose or plan would in itself be a recipe for disaster. Individuals should not impact the already overtaxed and limited resources to take away the food, water, shelter, medical assistance that is sorely needed. We do not need to have folks flown into the disaster site to become refugees and hence a burden on the recovery effort.

ICISF shall maintain and update this web site with information and handouts for distribution.
